Construction of a collector at J.F. Kennedylaan

Rainwater will be carried away towards the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal. To make this possible, a new sewer with a diameter of between 800 and 1600 mm is being laid. Some of the pipes are being installed using pipe jacking with a closed shield, while others are being laid in an open trench. The pipe jacking is being performed over a total length of 1350 metres at an average depth of 6 metres.

Most of the pipe-jacking route lies within the Ghent port area. Here temporary service roads and mobile traffic lights are keeping the disruption to a minimum for heavy goods vehicles.

An outflow structure is being built at a depth of up to 10 metres in the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal. This will be equipped with penstocks and a non-return valve.

Alongside the upgrading of the sewage network and roads, ecology is also an important consideration within this project. The roadway is being narrowed to create wider verges on which grass will be sown and trees planted.
