A few months ago, some project leaders came up with the idea of moving around our construction sites by bicycle. This idea was investigated, some bikes were purchased to test the feasibility of the proposal. And with a positive result: BESIX Infra bought 30 mountain bikes, which from now on will be used for movements on the building sites.
The bikes were fully adapted to the needs on site. Everything has been thought of: reflectors, bright lights, bicycle pump, drinking can holder, hooks to carry measuring equipment and detachable bicycle bags so that the project leaders can easily carry their work materials and documents during their trips. This not only increases safety but also convenience for our employees.
But there is more, using bicycles in our yards has numerous other benefits:
- Improved efficiency and time savings: our construction sites often stretch several kilometres. With a site bicycle, our project leader can move more quickly between the different project sites and the teams working on them. Not only does this give him more contact with the workers on site, he can also coordinate everything better and deal with any problems immediately, saving valuable time.
- Environmentally friendly and sustainable: yard bikes are completely emission-free, making them an eco-friendly alternative to traditional vehicles. By using the bikes, we contribute to reducing the carbon footprint and promote a cleaner and greener yard environment.
- Health and well-being: in addition to environmental benefits and more efficient work, using the bicycle also has health benefits for the project leader. Indeed, regular exercise not only improves physical fitness, it also reduces stress and promotes general well-being, making our project leaders feel better about themselves.
- Cost savings: by using yard bikes for movements on site, the risk of damage to our project leaders' vehicles is much lower. Moreover, yard bikes are cheaper to maintain and do not require fuel.
